an experience update


The assignment, that led to the creation of a new level, was to make an experience. The emotions that I was trying to create were: uneasiness, anger, and annoyance. 

I tried to get an uneasy feeling with the lighting and weird capitalization in the mother's speech. 

Anger and Annoyance come from the same places. I made the song in the background have a level of repeatability that the player will only start to really hear after a while of failing the platforming. The platforming isn't too difficult but if you mess up you will have to restart. Failing a couple of times with a repetitive beat would lead to anger and annoyance. I made an option if the player lets the child fall to quit the game. A built-in rage quit. 

Something else I wanted in this experience was a choice. The player can either give the child away to the circus which would give them enough money to buy a mystery liquid in the shop, or give the child back to the mother and get only one coin. 

I gave this game to my sister, who has only played Papas Pizzeria on the computer, and asked her to tell me her feelings about the game. She was annoyed and angry at this game because she couldn't get over the beginning jumps and then her time ran out.


What I added in this update. 

  • a daughter who moves slowly across the top platform on a timeline. Whenever she hits the end of the timer, she is at the edge and will fall apart. This will create a window for the player to either restart, go to the main menu, or exit the game. 
  • There is a mother who has different speech dialogues depending on the state of her daughter. If you give her the daughter she will be happy. If you have given away her daughter she will scream and her head will fall off. 
  • There is a circus man who has a happy and angry reaction depending on the state of the child. He will give the player five coins if they bring the child to him.
  • There is a shop that will check if the player has five coins or not and will give them mystery liquid if they have five coins. 
  • There is a song playing that I made with two different apps on my phone. One that made the song and one that was used for effects. 
  • There is a bed that checks if the player has a child or not. If they player has the child, then the daughter will appear on the bed and the player can collect their prize.
